Rattling the Sabers of War

North Korea and the US are rattling sabers again.  Today North Korea launched a barrage of artillery fire near their port city of Wonsan.  This display of military might is in celebration of the 85th anniversary of the North Korean Army.

The celebration was overshadowed by the arrival of an Ohio-class guided missile submarine. The USS Michigan, capable of holding over 150 sub-sonic cruise missiles, is present in spite of joint Naval drills between South Korea the US.  The Naval Exercises are scheduled to take place in the Yellow Sea.

An additional Live-fire exercise is planned towards the end of April and is said to Involve the USS Carl Vinson, USS Wayne E. Meyer, USS Michael Murphy, USS Lake Champlain and several other vessels.

Rumors also put a massive movement of Chinese troops and equipment to the North Korean border.  Its unclear if the escalation of forces in the region can end peacefully.
